This Week

Throughout this past week, I took a slight break from working on the behavior designer and worked on bug testing the new build. Unfortunately, for most of the week I did not have access to my main computer, and therefore was not able to continue my other work on my less powerful laptop. I was able to do a lot of bug testing and overall I did not encounter that many bugs.

However, the first bug I encountered was one of the most jarring. After starting a new game, the screen went black and remained that way for the entirety of the rest of the game. I originally thought that it was just loading the next scene, but when I heard the dialogue and music from Otto’s house I had a feeling that something was wrong. I would add a picture of what my screen looked like, but it wouldn’t be all that interesting since it was just pitch black.

Most of the other bugs I experienced were very minor issues regarding text or sprites clipping awkwardly over others, but these weren’t detrimental in any capacity.

In the basement I encountered a bug with the Gackle fight where sometimes the fight simply just wouldn’t be triggered. This left me and Otto just standing in the basement unable to move after all of the dialogue had been run through. Out of the five times I attempted to recreate this bug, I was only able to get it to repeat once. I’m not 100% sure why this happens, but it might have been an issue with me rushing through the dialogue.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a screenshot of this bug, since the black screen bug I mentioned before has been happening to me all morning every time I load the game.

Plans for Next Week

My plans for this next week are to pick up where I left off and continue to work more on the behavior designer, and make the Speaker animations look much more natural. Now that I’m at my main computer, I want to try and get as much done as possible before the holiday!

This Week's Media

This week’s piece of media is a cryptic tweet regarding Pokémon Go and musician Ed Sheeran. I’ve been playing Pokémon Go on and off since release and I have no idea what to even make of this. It reminds me of other celebrity-video game crossovers like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott in Fortnite. I’m not the biggest Ed Sheeran fan, but I’m very curious and interested to see what this collaboration leads to. I doubt there would be a concert in Pokémon Go, so maybe he’ll be some sort of special trainer.
